36 Baby Shower Ideas Every Mom-to-be Should See

Announce The Ultrasound Results

Answer the question on everyone’s mind; Is it a boy or a girl?

Expectant parents share the joy of discovering their baby’s gender with their closest friends and family.

How to announce it?

How about announcing the baby’s gender at the shower? An envelope from mom’s prenatal doctor is opened, revealing the big secret.

Preparation:

You’ll need the mother-to-be’s doctor to confidentially write the sex of the baby on a sheet of paper and place it in an envelope.

Variations:

Give the ultrasound results to a trusted third party. The third party wraps a boy or girl-themed gift knowing the results. The gift is then opened during the shower, revealing the big news.

My Thoughts:

Whether or not you have a theme, this shower idea will be the signature event, and everyone will remember it. It’s best to move the shower date up from the typical 4-6 weeks before the deadline. Doing so will give parents a bit extra time to make ‘gender specific’ preparations for their arrival!

Personalized Guest Book

Give your guest book a personalized touch.

Your honoree deserves something amazing to remember her baby shower!

How to make a guest book?

Each guest writes their name and a short note to the honoree on a page in a guest book. Someone will take the photos of each guest and add to the guest’s page at a later time.

Preparation:

You’ll need a camera and a blank guest book (or journal) for this shower idea. Block off the dimensions for your guest’s photo on each page – typically 3 x 5 inches. After the shower, develop your photos, attach them to the guest’s page and present to your mom-to-be.

Variations:

Skip the pictures and use a standard guest book for your baby shower.

My Thoughts:

Check out our similar baby journal activity.

Baby Tip Jar

Do you have baby-raising tips for your shower’s honoree? Place it in the baby tip jar!

You’ll never see a tip jar like this at your favorite coffee house or deli!

How to make a tip jar?

Shower guests write baby advice on index cards. The cards are folded and placed in a ‘tip jar.’ The tip jar is sealed with a cute lid and presented to the honoree at the end of the shower.

Place a couple of baby advice in the jar before the shower so guests quickly catch on to this idea.

Preparation:

Find a large glass container with a lid. Write ‘Baby Tips For [mom-to-be’s name]’ on tag board and attach to the side of the jar. Fancy up the top with decorative fabric, ribbon or tissue paper.

Variations:

Find index cards or printed paper to match your baby shower’s color scheme.

My Thoughts:

We have a tip for you – include this excellent idea at your shower!

‘Around The Clock’ Gifts

This gift giving idea creates around-the-clock fun for your guests.

This shower idea requires only a slight bit of preparation before sending out the shower invitations.

The Baby Shower Ideas:

Guests give gifts which coincide with a particular hour of the day. A gift given for 7 AM might be baby soap while a 5 PM might be a feeding set. The honoree opens gifts in an ‘around the clock’ chronological order!

Preparation:

The hostess must indicate which hour of the day a gift should represent when sending out the shower invitations. Each guest should pick a different time of the day.

Variations:

You can give the gifts for the upcoming months of the baby’s life. For example, mittens for January, baby sunscreen for July.

My Thoughts:

This ‘around the clock’ shower gift idea is ideally suited for baby sprinkles since your honoree is likely to have all the essential baby necessities from her first pregnancy.

Fabric Gift Wraps

The mother-to-be will think this fabric gift wrap idea is ‘sew’ cute!

Guests get rid of their extra fabric scraps, and your crafty honoree gets plenty of materials for creating baby quilts and other items.

The Baby Shower Ideas:

Guests are requested to wrap their gifts with fabric, buttons, scraps, ribbon and lace. The honoree receives plenty of supplies for her upcoming baby-related sewing and craft projects. Consider gifting the mother-to-be with a fun craft or sewing kit.

Preparation:

Just instruct guests to wrap their gifts in the fabric when sending out the invitations.

Variations:

If you have a theme in your mind for your party, find fabric that matches it, and include this info in your shower invites. Ask guests to include the fabric as part of their gift wrap. Those throwing farm and farm animal shower theme could include fabric with a barn, horses, and cows.

My Thoughts:

Since traditional paper gift wrap gets discarded and fabric gift wrap gets reused, you’ll be doing a small part in saving the Earth. The arriving baby will thank you!

Diaper Raffle

Both mother and guests win when you raffle off a gourmet food gift basket.

How to plan a diaper raffle?

Prepare a basket filled with gourmet foods, which you will use as a raffle for your upcoming party. Guests will “buy” raffle tickets by bringing baby diapers and wipes for the mother. For every diaper given by a guest, they’ll receive one chance for winning the gift basket!

Preparation:

Prepare a basket of salami, gourmet cheeses, crackers, jams, marmalades, wines, and a wine key. Indicate on invitations that guests can buy into the raffle by bringing baby diapers. Go to an office supply store or visit this link to purchase pull-apart tickets.

Variations:

Get creative with the contents of the gift basket. Try:

  • Italian food gift basket
  • Baby food gift basket
  • Hawaiian gift basket
  • Chocolate gift basket
My Thoughts:

We love this idea because mom gets some help stocking up on expensive baby diapers, and guests get to participate in a fun raffle. This ‘diaper raffle’ idea is especially perfect for office baby showers. Perhaps the employer will supply the gift basket.

Gift Recorder

It might be easy to remember who gave the tie-dyed onesie, but other gifts might not be so easy to recognize!

How to do it?

Before the shower, one guest is designated to record each gift and who gave it. The honoree uses the list when sending out thank-you notes.

Should the gift giver’s address be unknown, the gift recorder can secure their mailing address during the shower. This setup will make for hassle-free note sending.

Preparation:

Designate one guest as the gift recorder and supply them with a pen and paper.

Variations:

Videotaping your baby shower? Creating your record of gifts given by reviewing the tape after the party.

My thoughts:

Consider having a note taker to document special moments.

Create Custom Stamps

Yes, this is real U.S. postage!

You’ve opened thousands of envelopes in your life. Were any of the envelope’s postages memorable? We can hear you say ‘no’- That’s about to change!

How to make custom stamps?

A picture of your mom-to-be, the party location, or pictures of shower theme is used to create custom stamps. These custom stamps are real U.S. postage used to send your shower invitations. Custom stamps for a baby shower can be made to match your shower theme.

Preparation:

Gather the perfect digital photo in .jpg, .gif, or .bmp format. Go to a website of the many online vendors which create custom stamps (many of these site’s links appear on this page!)

Variations:

Create stamps which combine a picture of your honoree and the shower theme. Having a ducky baby shower? Have the mother-to-be pose with a rubber ducky.

My thoughts:

Fun starts when you send the invites. Get guests excited from the beginning!

Baby Nurse Training

Have a baby nurse teach guests how to handle child health emergencies. Learning CPR was never this much fun! Your honoree’s babysitters will be ready for any baby emergency with this great idea.

How to do it?

Bring in a baby nurse to inform your guests about on infant CPR and other baby health emergencies. This plan ensures the honoree has plenty of competent babysitters when the baby arrives!

Preparation:

Many hospitals and healthcare centers offer CPR classes. Contact these centers to arrange for a class to be offered during the shower. Request their most entertaining baby nurse!

Variations:

Baby nutrition classes are a great substitute. There’s always much to learn about nutrition, exercise, and disease prevention.

My thoughts:

This idea is even better when guests have small children of their own or will soon be starting families!

Baby Shower Photographer

Designating one person to take the photos will but the honoree at ease – and the hostess, too! This idea allows the honoree to enjoy her shower while documenting photo memories for another day.

How to do it?

One of your shower guests will be the official photographer for the party. This guest will hold a digital camera or an old-school film camera. Assigning a photographer will free the hostess for other duties and allow the mother-to-be to enjoy her joyous occasion thoroughly.

Preparation:

Seek out a great photographer in your group of guests. If the hostess is unsure whom to ask, the honoree or the other friends may have a suggestion. Keep in mind the photographer may need to be reimbursed for some expenses.

Variations:

Considering a professional photographer? Since a professional holds the rights to the photos, reproducing them at a later time may be costly.

My thoughts:

Is hostessing stressing you out? Make a checklist for planning-ease.

Baby Bathtub Punch Bowl

Drink disclaimer: this isn’t your grandmother’s punch bowl!

How to make a bathtub punch bowl?

Toss your punch bowl aside and serve drinks out of a baby tub. Cute toys and a great tasting punch make this a treat (almost) too good to drink!

Preparation:

Purchase a colorful tub at any baby supply store. Add additional items to place in the punch-filled tub:

  • Rubber ducks
  • Boats
  • Plastic fish
  • Other baby bath-time toys

Fill the tub with your favorite punch recipe. Freeze teething rings and use as ice rings in the punch.

Variations:

Serve your punch in baby bottles. Like a fine champagne, keep your bottles chilled on ice until guests arrive!

My thoughts:

You’ve thought of everything else, why not make your punch unforgettable too?

Create A Menu From Mom’s Name

Mom never thought she’d be honored like this!

How to make it?

Create a menu item for every letter in mom’s name. Use adjectives if necessary. Highlight the menu by using a slightly larger font to emphasize the beginning letters her name.

Preparation:

Create a menu of dishes beginning with each letter of mom’s first name. For example, if your honoree was named Lisa, a sample menu might include:

  • Lovely lasagna
  • Incredible garlic breadsticks
  • Spinach salad
  • Amaretto ice cream
Variations:

If the baby’s name is known, use it as the basis for this unique shower idea!

My thoughts:

Print out the menu on decorative paper. If you will use a shower theme, coordinate colors to match it.

Baby Blanket Gift Wrap

Discard traditional wrapping paper ideas and give a gift wrapped in style.

The Idea:

Skip traditional wrapping and wrap your shower gifts in a baby blanket. It can be the gift, covering a second gift or an empty cardboard box. Finish your gift wrapping by attaching a thick ribbon in a coordinated color.

Make an original gift tag out of thick paper. Punch a hole on one side and attach with a diaper pin.

Preparation:

You’ll need any number of receiving blankets and diaper pins for fastening. Place your gift in a flat box and proceed with wrapping the gift traditionally. Otherwise, wrap with the seam on the side. Fasten sides with the diaper pins.

Variations:

Don’t want to gift a blanket? The gift giver can bring the receiving blanket back home at the end of the shower. Not only is this a practical idea, but it also eliminates the use of wrapping paper – an environmentally friendly idea!

My thoughts:

A good match for our lullaby theme.

Coupons

Any honoree will love to receive a coupon for free babysitting or another baby-related service! Redeeming coupons gets a twist with this idea!

The Baby Shower Ideas:

Upon arriving, guests create redeemable coupons for babysitting, running errands, delivering a casserole or other mommy-related service. You can present the compiled coupon booklet to the mom at the end of the shower. The coupons can be redeemed at a later date.

Preparation:

Get a small journal with blank pages. Have the hostess and a few friends create some example coupons before the shower, and as guests arrive, have them make their own.

Variations:

Have guests donate money and give the honoree gift certificates for area restaurants and services.

My thoughts:

All the free advice and info you’ll need to raise a healthy and happy baby!

Decorating The Baby Nursery

Help parents prepare the baby nursery with this idea.

How to decorate the nursery?

Guests help parents prepare the nursery as part of the shower. Advise guests to give nursery pieces for their gifts.

Preparation:

Ask the parents-to-be how they plan on decorating their baby’s nursery. Find out what you will need for bedding, furniture, knick-knacks and other accessories for their nursery. Take note, and make a mini “baby nursery registry” on guests’ invitations. Have guests report which gifts they intend to give to avoid duplication.

Variations:

Most retailers who do bridal registries will also do registries. Have the parents-to-be complete the registration, and indicate the information on the invitations.

My thoughts:

These themes can double-up as a nursery theme

  • Baby carriage
  • Baby rattle
  • Hawaiian Luau

Day Care

Parental relief is on the way!

The Idea:

A location close to your venue is set up to provide babysitting and daycare for your guests’ children during the shower.

Indicate the daycare information on your shower invitations. List who will be babysitting and their relationship to the honoree (friend, neighbor or dad himself!)

Preparation:

Secure babysitters and a location near the shower venue for this service. Stuck? Try neighborhood teenagers, daycare providers or even the father-to-be and his buddies. Make sure to stock your location with toys and provide a couple of activities.

Variations:

Include the address and name of a nearby babysitter where kids can be dropped off during your shower.

My thoughts:

The kids will love playing with their friends, and guests will love free time to enjoy the party.

Ice Cube

This shower idea combines drink and fun for your attendees. Adding ice cubes with frozen contents can be fun to watch and give guests the incentive to drink fast!

The Idea:

Tiny plastic babies are bought and frozen into ice cube trays. These ice cubes are placed into guests cold drinks. This ice can be a great icebreaker (pun intended) for guests to get to know each other. Heck, you can even award a prize to the person whose ice cube is the first to melt.

Preparation:

You’ll need to buy tiny plastic baby dolls, available in party stores or online. Place one doll into each cube of an ice cube tray (depending on how many guests are coming.) When all the guests have arrived, give each one a cold drink with an ice cube. Without touching the ice cube, have each guest keep track of their cube melting. The first cube to completely melt and yield a baby doll wins.

Variations:

The plastic baby doll can be substituted with any tiny plastic toy. We suggest rattles, animals or another baby-themed accessory.

My thoughts:

This game can be fun with alcoholic or non-alcoholic drinks. But make this decision depending on whether the shower is pre or post-delivery so that the mother can participate. If this baby shower is game oriented, you’ll want to ensure each ice cube is handed out at the same time to ensure no one gets a head start melting their ice!

Disposable Camera

Point and click. Mom-to-be will have plenty of great memories with this shower idea.

The Idea:

Disposable cameras are placed around the shower or on the dining tables. Guests use the cameras to capture images from mom’s big day!

Preparation:

You’ll only need to pick up disposable cameras for this shower idea. Find cameras in beautiful colors to match your shower decor. You’re done!

Variations:

Substitute your disposable cameras for a digital camera. Attach a helium balloon to the digital camera, so it’s easily located and not lost!

My thoughts:

If using a digital camera, have a guest or a group of guests join up to give mom a digital picture frame. This innovative product uses any major format of flash memory card and instantly displays images on the screen!

Daddy’s Car Valet

Have the expectant father give your guests the VIP treatment by parking their cars. This idea is perfect when the expectant father wants to play a part, but not attend the entire shower.

The Idea:

Have dad be the valet and park the cars of your cherished guests. Though you can use this idea for any baby shower, it is especially fitting for a Hollywood or an ‘a star is born’ themed shower.

Preparation:

You’ll need one dad with a valid driver’s license, a place to park cars and sign with the words ‘baby shower valet.’

Variations:

If the father is unavailable, have another friend or family member park the cars.

My thoughts:

We hope the expectant father doesn’t fall in love with a new Porsche or Mercedes while parking cars in daddy’s car valet!

Decorate The Entrance

Guests will be in the mood before they open the door when you decorate the entrance. An excellent hostess establishes a party mood at the earliest possible time. Don’t waste those seconds as guests approach your party’s door!

How to decorate the entrance?

You will need to place the decorations on the walkways leading up to the entrance. Streamers or balloons help mark the door to the big party!

Preparation:

You’ll need to decide upon a theme or what mood one wishes to create. Then choose coordinating decorations, floral bouquets or lawn ornaments to decorate your shower entrance.

Variations:

Hanging a diaper wreath on the entrance door is a great alternative.

My thoughts:

You’ll be sure to snap pictures of mom’s big day. Don’t forget to snap pictures of the entrance to the party!

Gift Wrap Wall Hanging

This shower idea has gift wrap becoming a cute keepsake for your nursery wall. You’ll never throw away gift wrap again!

The Idea:

You need to save a piece of wrapping paper from each gift. Some time after the shower, the gift wrap is combined to create a wall hanging for the baby’s nursery.

Preparation:

The hostess will need to save an invitation and the gift wrap from the shower. Encourage your honoree to open gifts in a way to minimize damage to the wrapping paper. Have an artsy counterpart piece together the creation.

Create the wall hanging by attaching the invitation in the center of the piece of poster board. Add pieces of gift wrap around the invitation, overlapping the pieces in an artsy and creative way of your choice. Attach hanging wire to the back of your creation, and it’s ready to hang on a wall.

Variations:

Your gift wrap can be mounted in a frame for easier wall hanging.

My thoughts:

Besides making a great wall hanging, this idea is eco-friendly. Reduce. Re-use. Recycle!

Pass Out Bubble Gum Cigars

Take part in the time-honored tradition to celebrate a baby’s birth. Pass out cigars – bubble gum cigars! Keep the lighters in your pocket for this idea!

The Baby Shower Ideas:

When throwing a shower after the baby has been born, pass out bubble gum cigars to celebrate the event! Or pass out the cigars if the sex of the baby is known, but the baby has not yet arrived. The cigars can be ‘smoked’ when the baby arrives!

Preparation:

Purchase a box of bubble gum cigars from a baby specialty store or an online retailer. You know the color code – pink cigars for a baby girl and blue for a boy.

Variations:

If the gender of the baby is not yet known, find bubble gum cigars in the colors of the shower’s decorations.

My thoughts:

Did you know the ‘birth cigar’ tradition partially traces its roots back to the Northwest Coast Native American tribes and their potlatch ceremony? As part of this ceremony, smoke is blown in the air to give thanks. Unfortunately for celebration purists, you won’t be getting smoke from these bubble gum cigars!

Sidewalk Chalks Drawings

10 out of 10 sidewalk artists agree. The decoration is not complete until you decorate your sidewalk! Let the kid’s art medium add a special touch to your shower.

The Baby Shower Ideas:

Adorn your sidewalk and driveway with baby-related sketches, well wishes for the honoree or images to establish your shower theme. The soft pastels of most chalks are perfect for a baby shower.

Get guests in a childish mood by sketching a hop-scotch course approaching your shower door!

Preparation:

You’ll only need sidewalk chalk and sidewalk. Consider outsourcing your art design for kids to create.

Variations:

Mark arrows on the roads leading up to your shower. You’re on your own to find out if this is legal!

My thoughts:

Chalk drawings are one of those nice touches that separate one shower from the rest. You wouldn’t want your guests to walk on an ordinary sidewalk, now would you?

Scrapbook

Guests pre-prep scrapbook pages for the expectant mother. An album is a meaningful gift for the mother. In a few years, she’ll be able to share her big day with her child.

The Baby Shower Idea:

Guests create a pre-delivery scrapbook for the mother and baby. They are instructed to design and bring the completed page for the shower.

Preparation:

Include blank scrapbook pages when sending invitations. Instruct guests to design a page based on their relationship to the mother. The page could include pictures of the mother as a child, personal advice or poems. Compile your scrapbook at the shower and present to your honoree.

Variations:

Take pictures at the shower and compile your shower scrapbook at a later time. Give it to mom after her baby is born.

My thoughts:

You can also make them during the shower.

Address Shower Thank You Notes

Having someone address thank you notes for your honoree is a time-saving idea she will love! This shower idea is especially well suited for baby showers with a large guest list.

The Baby Shower Idea:

The hostess designates a person to address thank you note envelopes for every guest as they arrive at the shower. A table is set up near the shower’s entrance. The hostess greets guests and then verifies if the thank you note should be sent to the same mailing address as the invitation. Once the mailing address is verified, the hostess pre-addresses a thank you note envelope with the guest’s address.

Preparation:

The hostess will need a nicely decorated table near the shower entrance, thank you note envelopes; someone appointed to man the table and the mailing list for the invitations.

Variations:

Use the addressed envelopes for a baby shower raffle. Place the envelopes in a box, draw one out and award the winner a door prize!

My thoughts:

The birth of a baby will keep mom busy. Helping out with small tasks such as addressing envelopes will be appreciated beyond words.

Baby Bottle Snack

Serving a snack mix in a decorated baby bottle will boost your shower from ‘blah’ to ‘wow’ status. There’s no need to fetch those decorative bowls from the cabinet. Your serving your snacks baby-style!

The Baby Shower Idea:

Baby-ize the way you serve meals at your shower. Serve snack mix, nuts or hard mints in small baby bottles. Much cuter, wouldn’t you agree?

Preparation:

Gather a clear baby bottle for the number of guests at your party. Remove the nipple, so the top of the bottle is open. Fill the bottle any of the following snack foods:

  • Mixed nuts
  • Spiced almonds
  • Nut and mint mix
  • Wasabi peas
  • Dried fruit
  • Chex Mix, or another cereal mix
  • Spicy party mix
  • Jellybeans

Fill the bottle with the desired mix of ingredients.

Variations:

A fun party favor twist on this idea would be to fill small baby bottles with your choice of snack mix. Send one home with each guest.

My thoughts:

Every element of your baby shower should be well thought out. It will prove that your planning was immaculate!

Have A Frozen Dinner

Expectant mothers and fathers will be in for a surprise when the baby arrives, and there’s suddenly no time to cook! Let a ‘frozen dinner baby shower’ come to the rescue. We love this idea – especially for first-time mothers and fathers.

The Idea:

Just request all shower attendees prepare a cold dish to give to the expectant family. Depending on how many guests you will invite, the new parents might be able to go weeks without having to cook for their family. And you’ll be giving them the gift of time to celebrate their new arrival!

Preparation:

Designate on invitations what type of frozen food guests should bring. It should eliminate the chance the couple receives 20 desserts! Make sure to indicate homemade frozen dinners are preferred.

Some of our favorite freezable foods include:

  • lasagna
  • spaghetti sauce
  • soup
  • beef stroganoff sauce
  • pizza
  • ready-to-fry stir fry
  • hamburger patties (uncooked)

Also, most desserts freeze very well!

Variations:

Weave this idea into your baby shower by serving frozen smoothies or ice cream to guests. They’ll love it!

My thoughts:

These gifts to the soon-to-be family are better than quantities of picture frames or baby lotion. The real value of these gifts is allowing the new parents to spend additional time with their little treasure.

Decorate A Pillowcase

Having guests decorating a pillowcase to be given at a later time is a splendid idea, especially for girls! Imagine the delight a 12-year-old girl would have when holding a keepsake created for her before she was born.

The Idea:

Place fabric pens and pillowcases on a table at your shower party. Guests may take a moment to decorate the pillowcase with a personal message, an autograph, a drawing or design. It gives your honorees a keepsake of the shower. At a later time, you can give the pillowcase to the grown baby to remind them of the anticipation they created a long time ago!

Preparation:

You’ll only need a pillowcase and fabric pens for this idea.

Variations:

Decorate t-shirts or any other sort of material.

My thoughts:

Imagine your five-year-old trying to contemplate this pillowcase was created for them before they were born. It will get them thinking!

Magician

For those with a long guest list or showers with children, hire a baby shower magician to entertain. This magic man won’t be pulling rabbits from his hat. They’ll pull babies and baby-related items!

The Idea:

A magician is brought in to entertain your guests instead of playing baby shower games and activities. Your pregnant honoree gets into the action by being the magician’s helper. Instead of bunnies and other props, the magician performs their magic with baby dolls, bottles, pacifiers and other baby related items.

Preparation:

Ask friends for a recommended magician or scan the Yellow Pages for a magician in your area. Make sure to request they perform their magic with baby related items before they agree to entertain your guests.

Variations:

Your local magic shop could suggest baby-related tricks which can be carried out by a young child. The lucky child will enjoy being center stage for this event.

My thoughts:

Abracadabra. Your baby shower just went from good to great with this baby magician idea!

Baby Book Shower

Reading to babies, toddlers, and all children are important in building vocabulary and reading skills. Unfortunately, books can get expensive. This idea is perfect for those concerned with educating their kids at an early age.

The Idea:

Just designate on invitations this is a “baby book” shower. Have guests each bring a book as a gift for the baby. A variety of classics, pop-ups or bedtime story books will ensure a good mix of material.

Preparation:

We love the idea of serving a book-shaped cake at this shower. Another great idea to this idea is to ask guests to come dressed as a character from their favorite children’s book. Goldilocks, Mother Hen or Peter Pan – who knows who could show up?!

Variations:

If children are present at this baby shower, have a designated book-reading area to keep them entertained.

My thoughts:

Establishing a reading ritual with your child will ensure daily reading for many years. This habit will pay off with earlier literacy.

Personalized Gift Giving

This idea makes gift giving a featured part of your shower. Get personal with your gift giving! Mom’s ultrasound will be having a significant impact on gift giving!

The Idea:

If the parents-to-be know the gender and name of their baby, you can use a personalized gift idea for a baby shower! Have guests give personalized gifts complete with the baby’s name and gender colors. There are all sorts of personalized gifts which are totally adorable.

Preparation:

Include the name and gender info on your invitations. Mention all guests will be encouraged to personalize their gifts.

Parents-to-be will love getting these personalized gifts. Gifts like these are also beautiful to keep and cherish for years to come. Some of our favorite ideas are personalized:

  • Onesies
  • Room decor
  • Piggy banks
  • Toy boxes or toy chests
  • Stuffed animals
  • Bibs
Variations:

If the sex is known, but not the name, indicate this information to guests. From there, they can decide what colors to choose.

My thoughts:

There’s always the chance that the sex of the baby might not be what people thought. Have the parents check with the doctor to see how certain he or she is about the sex.

Prize Basket

Make baby shower prize-giving fun and memorable! Give your guests plenty of mouth-watering incentive to win your shower’s games and activities.

The Idea:

Replace your typical shower games and prizes with an assortment of chocolates or goodies in a gift basket. Let guests salivate over this prized package, while informing guests know someone will be winning the prize by playing one of your shower’s baby games. Display these items in a prominent position so guests know the stakes are high!

Preparation:

Gather an assortment of prizes and display in a basket. Some prize ideas include:

  • Chocolates
  • Gift cards
  • Soaps/Shower Gels
  • Candles
  • Cookie or brownie mix
  • Perfume samples
  • Sun block
  • Travel-sized shampoos, toothpaste, etc.
  • Cleaning supplies
  • A “mystery box,” containing money or another item
Variations:

You can make themed prize baskets. Those throwing a circus theme could include animal crackers, peanuts and cotton candy in their basket!

My thoughts:

Are you hooked on baskets? Check out the gift basket theme.

Designated Note Taker

Many years down the road, your honoree will love remembering being told she had never looked more beautiful. This baby shower idea makes sure your shower’s special moments are not forgotten.

The Idea:

A guest is chosen to document your shower’s precious moments discreetly. Spoken words, good laughs, touching moments and shower details are all written down. The list is later transcribed in a journal and given to the honoree.

Preparation:

This idea requires a guest with a knack for documenting the precise details of special moments. You’ll also need a pen, paper and a journal for transcribing your list.

Variations:

Have the honoree and a couple of close friends recount the special remembrances shortly after the shower. It won’t allow for word-for-word accuracy, but the general thoughts and impressions will be documented.

My thoughts:

The key to pulling off this baby shower idea is for the note taker to be discreet. It could be unsettling for some guests to know they are going on the record!

Inflatable Game Rentals

When kids are present at a baby shower, give them the ultimate party pleaser – inflatable balloon rentals. When the kids are happy, so will the ‘older’ guests!

The Baby Shower Ideas:

Rent inflatable games and jumpers for kids to enjoy during your shower.

Preparation:

Scan the yellow pages or look online for balloon rental companies. Ask them if they have a cake (i.e., cake) shaped jumper. Make sure you have enough backyard room for your inflatables.

Variations:

Kids would also love a trampoline rental- (But this comes with a bit more risk!)

My thoughts:

Although renting balloons may be a bit extravagant for some budgets, keeping kids occupied and entertained during the party is priceless!

Balloon Canopy

Helium filled balloons covering the ceiling creates a surreal canopy which will leave your guests in awe.

The Idea:

Balloons are a prominent party decor, but this plan is a bit more refined than traditional bright balloon bouquets. The idea is basically to “fill” a ceiling with helium balloons, so the entire space is covered.

Preparation:

We suggest renting a helium tank for this one. Purchase balloons and matching string in your baby shower color scheme. Inflate enough balloons to fill the entire surface area of the party room. When you cut the length of the chain, make sure it won’t hit guests in the face!

Variations:

Have guests bring the balloons home with them, especially if they have kids.

My thoughts:

This idea is a great accompaniment to the balloon bouquet decorations. Don’t forget to turn off your ceiling fans!

Baby Bottle Drinks

Channel your inner infant and serve drinks in these fun bottles

The Idea:

Serve your drinks in baby bottles. It works well for punch, alcoholic, and non-alcoholic beverages. Best of all, it fits with any theme. After the party’s done, you can give the bottles to the mother-to-be.

Preparation:

Purchase one baby bottle for every guest in attendance. Cut off the top of the nipple, pour in your drink, and stick in a straw. If serving punch, bypass the punch bowl and pour into the bottles before the occasion. You’re ready to party!

Variations:

Since baby bottles come in many colors, match the bottle with the shower’s color scheme. Showers serving stronger alcoholic drinks might consider a baby bottle for infants, the smaller version the typical bottle.

My thoughts:

This idea is a great match for our chug-a-lug and hot bottle games.
