Each guest brings a baby picture of herself and plays the baby pictures game. Give your winning player a cute picture frame.

The Menu:

An appetizer buffet is a perfect menu for this shower theme. Most of these items are pre-prep so that you won’t be stuck in the kitchen during the party.

  • Barbecued chicken wings
  • Mini-bruschettas
  • Cheese and crackers platter
  • Deviled Eggs
  • Spiced pecans

Top the menu off with a baby face cake. Check in with your local cake bakery for options.

Party Favors:

Give each lucky guest a baby candles created from Gerber baby food containers.

My Thoughts:

Here’s a bit of ‘baby face shower theme’ trivia: Did you know that the Gerber baby wasn’t a baby at all? The baby was a creation by Ann Turner Cook in 1928 to compete in a contest to create the Gerber baby image. Apparently, she won!

Carriage Baby Showers Theme

A carriage theme is beautiful, elegant, and simple to pull off!

A baby carriage, buggy or pram can only mean one thing – it’s time to celebrate the coming baby.

Invitations:

Create invites using an image of a baby carriage or paper with a wicker print border.

Decorations:

The baby carriage theme is well suited for a shabby chic styled decor. Decorate your venue in soft pinks, mint greens and cream colors. Integrate wicker pieces in your decor. Give yourself extra points for finding a wicker baby carriage for your shower!

Games & Prizes:

For those having an outdoor shower, consider playing the “Protect the Egg” game.

Divide your guests into groups of two and arm them with ten plastic straws and a roll of masking tape. Have teams create a container for the egg using only the supplies provided. After the containers have been made, each team drops an unboiled egg onto their container from a height of 8 feet. If the egg doesn’t break on impact, that team is a winner.

The Menu:

A baby carriage can be quite a beautiful thing. We think a pasta bar is a perfect fit. Serve a couple of your dishes within wicker containers.

  • A variety of fresh pasta: Ravioli, spaghetti, gnocchi, tortellini, etc.
  • A variety of pasta sauces: Pesto, Marinara, aioli, meat, etc.
  • Fresh parmesan
  • Top your menu off with a baby carriage cake.
Party Favors:

Have a specialty chocolatier create dark chocolate baby carriages – the perfect favor for this shower.

My Thoughts:

Consider giving the mom-to-be a lovely shabby chic inspired gift. Wrap your gift with strips of fabric for ribbons!

Puppy Baby Shower

Cute pups + cute babies = one cute theme!

No hostess will ever be in the dog house if she throws a puppy themed shower!

Invitations:

Cut out dog bone shapes from cream-colored construction paper. Print shower details on the back. Have your guests choose a dog or puppy name to use during the shower!

The artistic might consider sketching dogs from white paper, adding black spots and sending these ‘dalmatian’ invites.

Decorations:

Cut out paper bones and place around the room. Create a dog house from a cardboard box for guests to deposit gifts. You’ll need a cutout of a hydrant. Display pictures of your favorite pooch to set the mood. If a little one is present, dress them up in dog costumes!

Games & Prizes:

Skip traditional games and bring in the groomers (not dog groomers- human!) Treat your guests to manicures, pedicures, facials, or other spa favorites.

The Menu:

Serve a variety of appetizers in (new and clean!) dog bowls

  • Cereal party mix
  • Guacamole
  • Puppy Chow (Sweet, chocolate-covered grains)
Party Favors:

Fill a “doggie bag” with sweet treats and give to each guest.

My Thoughts:

Like animals but not dogs? Try a frog or farm animal theme.

Moon and Stars Baby Shower

Nothing could be cozier than a baby shower under the moon and stars.

Promise your guests the moon and stars – literally! This theme is best suited for an evening party.

Invitations:

Create your moon and star messages using dark blue construction paper, gold foil, and gold glitter.

Decorations:

This shower theme is best when with dimly lit surroundings. Cut moon and star shapes from dark blue and yellow construction paper, respectively. Keep your venue lit by white Christmas lights and tea candles. Gold accessories will top off your decorating.

Games & Prizes:

Play the unwrap the gift contest. Wrap your gifts in the moon, star or dark blue wrapping paper.

The Menu:

Stick to traditional fare, but serve a delicious gold punch. Here’s the recipe.

  • 32 oz. Unsweetened pineapple juice
  • 32 oz. Unsweetened orange juice
  • 6 oz. can frozen lemonade concentrate
  • 1-quart ginger ale (add right before serving)

Finish your menu off by serving the moon, and star shaped sugar cookies, iced with a blue and yellow frosting.

Party Favors:

Send each guest back home with a box of Celestial Seasonings “Sleepytime Herb Tea.”

My Thoughts:

If you have the possibility, celebrate under the night sky. You might want to ask the mom-to-be if the baby was conceived in a similar setting!

Comfort Food Baby Shower

This is all about eating!

Invitations:

Set your guest’s expectations for your munch-fest by sending trial sample shower invitations. Include snack crackers or a small bag of peanuts.

Decorations:

This shower is all munching. Decorate your venue with glassware, plates and vintage crocks full of snack foods.

Games & Prizes:

Play any of these food-inspired games;

  • Feed the baby game
  • Candy bar memory concentration game
  • Baby feeding race
The Menu:

Choose from any of these comfort foods:

  • Macaroni and Cheese
  • Stew
  • Lasagna
  • Fried chicken
  • Mashed potatoes and gravy
  • Chili
  • Chocolate cake
  • Chocolate chip cookies

Don’t forget that comfort food means different things to different people. Ask the mother-to-be what her favorite comfort food is.

Otherwise, consider having each guest bring their favorite comfort food and having a potluck.

Party Favors:

Any yummy, homemade treat is a perfect party favor.

My Thoughts:

Want to spoil your guests? Give each one a jar of homemade jam.

Mexican Baby Shower

A Mexican theme is perfect for the hostess who craves something new and exciting.

This unique idea is quite easy to pull off. There’s always a broad availability of Mexican food, goods, music and everything else in most areas.

Invitations:

Send out pinata letters. Include some Spanish on your invitation, like ‘Estas invitada a la fiesta!’ (You’re invited to the party!)

Decorations:

Deck your venue out fiesta-style. Sombreros, confetti, and maracas are great ideas.

Add some tunes! Mexican music is very party-friendly. One of our favorite Mexican singers is Guadalupe Pineda.

Games & Prizes:

I love the idea of making a mommy-pinata for the mother-to-be. Fill a pinata with useful baby items (pacifiers, baby wipes, rattles, trial-sized lotions and powder and other small baby items) and start whacking! For the guests, include chocolates, shower gels, and other small party favors.

The Menu:

Depending on your budget, consider having your party catered. Otherwise, try

  • Nacho Bar
  • Tacos
  • Burritos
  • Fried Ice Cream
  • Flan
Party Favors:

A jar of salsa would make a great favor!

My Thoughts:

This idea could be modified using other country themes. Other countries with food and supplies readily available are Spain, Japan, and China. This fiesta is bound to be a hit! Ole!

Birthstone Baby Showers Theme

Welcome, your little gem into this world by throwing a birthstone baby shower!

Invitations:

Send letters printed on paper in the color of the expected birthstone. Or go with standard invites, encouraging all to wrap their gifts in the color of the birthstone!

Decorations:

Decorate in the color of the baby’s birthstone. Plates, napkins, streamers and other party details will need to be planned. This color chart will help you choose your party colors:

  • January – garnet (dark red)
  • February – Amethyst (light purple)
  • March – Aquamarine or Bloodstone (light blue)
  • April – Diamond (white or clear)
  • May – (medium to dark green)
  • June – pearl or moonstone (glossy white)
  • July – Ruby (candy apple red)
  • August – Peridot (light green)
  • September – Sapphire (medium to dark blue)
  • October – opal or tourmaline (glossy white)
  • November – yellow topaz or citrine (orange)
  • December – blue topaz or turquoise (light blue)
Games & Prizes:

Many shower games can be incorporated to fit your birthstone theme. The word scramble game can be modified to include objects with the color of the birthstone.

The Menu:

Include mints dyed to match the birthstone colors.

Serve a color-coordinated fruit salad. Expecting an August baby? Serve a light green kiwi and green apple salad.

Party Favors:

Give each guest jelly beans in a variety of gem tones. Package in a clear jar and topped with ribbon, and this party favor will be a visual delight.

My Thoughts:

Since it’s impossible to know exactly when the baby will arrive, consider combining two birthstone colors! A baby coming in June or July could be thrown a party with a bright white and candy apple red color palette.

Those needing additional birthstone information can read our birthstones by month article.

Charitable Cause Baby Shower

Mom’s favorite charity gets a boost with this innovative shower theme!

Let a charity benefit from your hosting!

Invitations:

They should state that the gifts will be given to a particular charity. The name of the charity and the type of gift should be indicated. In most cases, the gift would be a monetary donation. However, a food bank would be gifted food items, and a Toys-4-tots charity would be gifted toys.

Decorations:

If a chosen charity has a particular color, thread this color throughout your party’s decor. For instance, a shower for breast cancer awareness would use a light pink.

Games & Prizes:

Choose from any of our games. Game winners can have donations made in their name.

The Menu:

Choose from any of our menu and food ideas.

Party Favors:

Once again, gifts to a charity can be given as shower favor. Read up on this guide to charitable donations as a shower favor.

My Thoughts:

There are many causes in this world nobler than giving an expectant mother her 13th onesie. Please consider making a charity the beneficiary of your baby shower. You’ll be glad you did!

Belly Casting Baby Shower

A belly casting shower is themed around the activity of creating a pregnancy belly cast.

This theme is best suited for a small group of friends and family. As one might guess, this theme is based on the activity of creating a belly cast of your mom-to-be’s torso. Belly casting is perfect for baby sprinkles which often have a smaller guest list.

Invitations:

Standard shower invitations are fitting for this theme. Since there is a slight chance guests could spill casting materials on their outfits, encourage all to avoid wearing formal wear!

Decorations:

The color palette for this theme should be a ‘sculpture gray.’ Create a perfect centerpiece from a small garden sculpture and flowers.

Games & Prizes:

The shower activity will have you creating a sculpture of mom’s torso! Get the details at our guide to pregnancy belly casting.

The Menu:

A cake created with a ‘sculpture gray’ frosting would get raves. Create the cake in the shape of a baby.

Party Favors:

A baby bottle with gray candies would be fitting. Or consider the bouquet of pale candles.

My Thoughts:

The belly cast will be a treasured remembrance of a day spent with close friend and family.

Medieval Baby Showers

You’re going to party like it’s 1299!

Invitations:

Use gothic lettering on your invitations. Include a couple of Medieval words like thou, thine, hast and shalt.

Decorations:

Decorate with luxurious velvet fabric and gray party supplies. Gray balloon bouquets will drop hints of a castle. Play some Gregorian chants in the background for added effect.

Games & Prizes:
  • Pin the tail on the dragon
  • Dragon Pinata
The Menu:

Having actual foods eaten back in the 1500’s would be a downer! Differentiate your list by naming each dish a type of grub.

  • Fruity grub (fruit salad)
  • Frosted grub cake

Create place cards printed with Gothic lettering.

Party Favors:

Give each guest a small gray candle.

My Thoughts:

The perfect way to hail a baby Arthur, Elizabeth or Xavier into the new world. (Or should we say old world!)

Flip Flop Baby Showers

This shower theme is a beachcomber’s dream! This unique shower idea is themed around the greatest sandals ever, flip flops.

Does your honoree feel more at home in flip-flops than high heeled shoes? Does she love spending time on the beach? Is she laid back? Look no further!

Invitations:

Create flip flop invitations from bright poster board. Print party details on the sole of the sandal. Encourage all to come in their flip-flops and beach attire.

Decorations:

Use sand buckets, kites and beach balls to create your beach decor. Make a centerpiece by filling a glass vase with sand, water and seashells. Top your decor off with some beach-themed music.

Games & Prizes:

Have guests decorate their flip flops. This fun activity allows guests to take home a fun souvenir from the party.

The Menu:

Serve summertime fare such as;

  • Lassi
  • Homemade lemonade
  • Sloppy Joes
  • Ice cream bar
Party Favors:

Send guests home with pedicure favorites such as nail polish, pumice stones or a peppermint foot scrub.

My Thoughts:

Throwing your party in the summer? Check out our June, July and August themes.

United Nations Baby Shower

A United Nations theme is perfect for a multicultural crowd. Celebrate diversity and the arrival of your little globetrotter at the same time!

Bring your little jet setter into this world in style!

Invitations:

Send out sleek and chic invites. Instruct your guests to bring food from their homeland.

Decorations:

Create little flags of the home countries of your guest list. This will be a great way to make everyone feel at home. Display maps and place globes around your venue.

Games & Prizes:
  • Decorate flip flops
  • Birthday cards for the future
  • Croquet
The Menu:

Your guests bring their ‘homeland’ dishes for the shower. Enjoy the diversity this menu provides! Top it off with an earth-shaped baby shower cake.

Party Favors:

Since multicultural crowds often have a heightened world awareness, consider the charitable donations shower favor.

My Thoughts:

Live this theme up by holding your shower at the United Nations! We doubt they’d let you but feel free to inquire for yourself. The UN is located at 760 United Nations Plaza, New York, NY 10017.
