How to make chocolate curls?
You’ve seen them- beautiful chocolate curls topping delicious looking cakes at fancy cake shops and bakeries. While you may feel miles away from being able to create this professional look, making these chocolate decorations is easier than you think.
Notes:
Purchase these blocks of chocolate at a specialty cake decorating shop or cake bakery. You can also make white chocolate curls using a block of white chocolate.
Ingredients
- 1 8-ounce block of semisweet chocolate
Instructions
- Place chocolate bar in warm spot for about an hour to soften (try near a sunny window, on top of refrigerator, etc.)
- Do not place on top of the stove, microwave, oven, or any other hot spot. You want to soften the chocolate, not melt it.
- There are two options for making curls.
- Try both to see which is easiest for you.
- Vegetable peeler: Drag vegetable peeler from one end of chocolate down to the other end to make curls.
- Large chef's knife: With chocolate lying flat on a flat surface, drag large chef's knife from the top of chocolate to the bottom to make curls.
- Refrigerate curls immediately and continue refrigerating until serving. Curls can be frozen.
