How to make German chocolate cake?
Like peanut butter and jelly- salt and pepper- this delicious cake goes hand in hand with our coconut pecan frosting.

Ingredients
- 4 ounces German's sweet chocolate
- 1/2 cup boiling water
- 2 sticks butter
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 egg yolks
- 4 egg whites (stiffly beaten)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup buttermilk
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Grease and flour three 9-inch round cake pans.
- In boiling water, melt chocolate. In large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar together until fluffy.
- Add egg yolks, vanilla extract and chocolate mixture.
- In a separate bowl, combine dry ingredients.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to the chocolate mixture, alternating with buttermilk.
- Fold in egg whites.
- Pour batter evenly into cake pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, depending on your oven.
