How to make tres leches cake?
Pastel de tres leches, or ‘three kinds of milk cake’ is a delectable Mexican favorite. A butter cake is soaked in milk, sweetened condensed milk and evaporated milk, making for the ultimate in moistness.
My thoughts:
For extra goodness, make your topping out of heavy whipping cream. Simply whip cream until it thickens (about 3-4 minutes.) Add sugar and vanilla to your taste.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cup flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 stick unsalted butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 5 eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup milk
- 7 ounces sweetened condensed milk
- 6 ounces evaporated milk
- Whipped cream, for topping
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Grease 9 x 13-inch pan.
- Sift together flour and baking powder.
- In a separate bowl, cream the butter and sugar.
- Add eggs and vanilla, beating well.
- Gradually add flour mixture to butter mixture.
- Mix until well blended.
- Pour into pan.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes.
- After the cake is baked, pierce it with a fork in about ten places.
- Allow to cool.
- Combine the sweetened condensed milk and evaporated milk.
- Pour over cooled cake.
- Allow to chill for at least 2 hours before serving.
- Top with whipped cream.
