Meatloaf is a true American comfort food. So many individuals stepping into the Paleo diet scene. It is no wonder that as they try to stay true to their meal plans, they crave a little nostalgia. Paleo Meatloaf fits the comforting, nostalgic meal idea.
Honestly, this recipe is a delicious meatloaf recipe no matter what diet you adhere to. I am providing not only a Paleo Meatloaf recipe but this recipe is also a Gluten-Free Meatloaf. It combines ground meats with apples, mushrooms, onions, walnuts, herbs, and eggs to make a tasty main dinner entrée.
The Paleo diet is referred to as the ‘caveman diet”. It harkens to a bygone time of simpler food consumption. The diet is based on eating lean meat, lots of veggies, fruits, and healthy fats. You can also add eggs, seeds, and nuts. But stay away from any dairy, refined oils and sugars, potatoes, and salt.

This is what Dr. What Kathleen Zelman, MPH, RD, has to say about the Paleo diet, “Eliminating all grains, dairy, processed foods, sugar, and more will most likely lead to weight loss, but it may be a tough plan to follow long term due to the dietary limitations and restrictions. There are several studies on certain aspects of the Paleo Diet. They have found that a diet rich in lean protein and plant-based foods can make you feel fuller, control blood sugar levels, and help you lose weight”. Those seem like great reasons to give this recipe a test run and see if this diet could be for you.

Ingredients
- ½ pound ground turkey (90% lean)
- ½ pound ground beef (grass fed preferred, 80/20)
- 2 tablespoons apple, peeled
- ½ white onion diced
- 1 cup cremini or brown mushrooms
- 1 clove garlic, halved
- ½ cup walnuts, raw shelled
- 1 teaspoon thyme, dry
- 1 teaspoon rosemary, dry
- 2 eggs or egg alternative
- 3 teaspoons coconut oil
Instructions
- Heat an oven 375F.
- Grease a loaf pan with coconut oil.
- Place the apple, onion, garlic, mushrooms, and walnuts in the bowl of a food processor and whirl until they are a meal or coarse vegetable paste, add the coconut oil and eggs and mix more.
- Mix together the meats, herbs, and the mixture from the food processor in a large bowl.
- Form the meatloaf to fit into a loaf pan and bake for 35 minutes.
- Let the meatloaf cool a bit before slicing and serving to let it rest and make it easier to remove from the pan.
- If you like a little sauce on your meatloaf, you can top it with Paleo Ketchup for the last 10 minutes of cooking to make a crusty topping.
