Classic Chocolate Cake Recipe

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 3/4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 2/3 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup + 2 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1 cup + 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 cup + 2 tablespoons canola oil
  • 5 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Grease and flour three 10-inch cake pans.
  3. Sift together flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, sugar and cocoa in large bowl.
  4. Add 1 cup plus two tablespoons water, and 1 cup plus two tablespoons canola oil.
  5. Mix for one minute.
  6. Add eggs, 3/4 cup water, and vanilla.
  7. Mix for 3-4 minutes with an electric hand mixer.
  8. Pour batter evenly into pans.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes, depending on your oven.
  10. Let cool.
  11. Cover and transfer to the freezer for at least 2 hours before frosting.
